Keinginan Google untuk menciptakan sebuah jejaring sosial untuk menyaingi Facebook nampaknya akan menjadi sebuah kenyataan, setelah Google mengumumkan bahwa mereka telah membeli jaringan online Slide. Perusahaan Slide adalah startup yang berbasis di San Francisco bermain di belakang aplikasi atau praktis seperti SuperPoke dan FunSpace yang telah menjadi hits di Facebook dan lainnya situs jaringan sosial.

Google sedang berupaya untuk mengembangkan platform jejaring sosial yang terbuka, transparan dan menarik. Cara untuk memungkinkan pengguna untuk mengambil keuntungan penuh dari bagaimana teknologi dapat membawa mereka lebih dekat dengan teman dan keluarga dan memberikan informasi yang berguna hanya untuk mereka. Microsoft telah mengeluarkan patch darurat untuk menghalau 'lubang' di software sistem operasi Windows. Jika dibiarkan 'lubang' tersebut memungkinkan hacker untuk mengendalikan komputer melalui internet.

"Kelemahan ini memungkinkan eksekusi kode dari jarak jauh jika ikon khusus yang dibuat untuk shortcut ditampilkan," ujar juru bicara Microsoft Christopher Budd melalui bulletin yang beredar.

Update software tersebut akan memperbaiki kerusakan pada Windows XP, Windows Vista dan Windows 7.

"Kami sadar bahwa dalam beberapa hari terakhir, kami telah melihat kerusakan yang semakin berkembang. Kami yakin dengan peluncuran ini adalah hal yang terbaik untuk para pelanggan kami," ujar Budd.

Microsoft diharapkan untuk meluncurkan perbaikan tersebut secepatnya dan para pengguna Windows disarankan untuk menjalankan sistem update untuk meng-install program perbaikan tersebut guna memastikan komputernya terlindung dari kerusakan.

Microsoft pertama kali memperingatkan para pengguna Windows mengenai kerusakan tersebut pada tanggal 16 Juli. Para ahli telah menyarankan para pengguna Windows untuk menggunakan solusi-solusi yang sudah ada di komputer masing-masing sebelum program perbaikan tersebut diluncurkan.

Facebook, yang sebelumnya digunakan untuk mendistribusikan live-video, kini telah membuat aplikasi live-video nya sendiri yang bernama Facebook Live. Aplikasi tersebut terlihat seperti aplikasi live-video lainnya, dengan pembicaraan (chat) yang disiarkan di news feed. Video tersebut nantinya juga bisa di-embed.

Sepertinya bakal menarik bagaimana Facebook akan mempromosikan fitur tersebut. Mungkin kita akan melihat notifikasi di News Feed ketika (misalnya) ada tamu yang datang ke markas Facebook. Aplikasi ini akan membuat interaksi antara Facebook dengan penggunanya menjadi semakin akrab.

Bagaimanapun, tidak seperti Ustream dan Livestream yang hanya menawarkan fitur live-video untuk Facebook Pages, Facebook Live bersifat lebih bersifat untuk menceritakan apa yang terjadi di situs jejaring sosial tersebut.(usatoday)

Peneliti keamanan memperingatkan anggota Facebook untuk menghindari mengklik link yang konon menawarkan pengguna akses mudah ke tombol 'dislike'.

"Dalam survei terakhir memperlihatkan penyebaran scam virally di Facebook, dengan menggunakan rumus mencoba-dan-teruji dengan penipuan virus lainnya," ujar Graham Cluley dari Sophos.

"Biasanya aksi ini menipu Anda agar memberikan apppermission FB berkonten dewasa untuk mengakses profil Anda, posting pesan spam dari account Anda dan meminta Anda untuk mengisi survei online," tambahnya

Cluley menjelaskan penipuan dengan modus 'dislike' ini diformulasikan untuk menggoda pengguna agar mudah tertipu yang ingin mengekspresikan pendapat negatif tentang posting, link dan upload.

"Jika Anda memberikan izin untuk menjalankan aplikasi, pembaruan ini akan diam-diam mempromosikan link yang ditipu dengan menggunakan akun Anda, sehingga menyebarkan pesan untuk teman-teman di dalam kontak Anda," sebut Cluley.

Intel Corporation, perusahaan pembuat chip terkemuka di dunia, diberitakan baru saja membeli McAfee, perusahaan perangkat lunak komputer dan keamanan terkemuka di dunia. Kini giliran Google yang akan dibuatkan film dokumenternya.

Sebelumnya, di akhir tahun 2009 buku tentang Google yang berjudul 'Googled: The End of the World As We Know It' juga sudah diterbitkan. Buku tersebut ditulis oleh Ken Auletta, kolumnis dari The New Yorker.

Segrey Brin dan Larry Page, pendiri dari Google, telah bekerjasama dengan Groundswell Production dan produser John Morris untuk membuat film layar lebar mengenai situs search-engine tersebut.

Pengerjaan film tersebut masih di tahap awal. Michael London (Groundswell Production) dan Morris sedang merencanakan pendanaan film tersebut dan menggunakan buku karya Auletta
sebagai sumber cerita. Sampai saat ini belum ada pengumuman siapa yang bakal membintangi film tersebut.

Film tentang Google tanpa ragu pasti bakal menarik orang-orang yang berminat di bidang teknologi. Hanya saja mereka (pihak produser) nampaknya harus berpikir keras, bagaimana supaya film ini bisa diterima di masyarakat luas.(okezone)

Microsoft telah menetapkan jadwal pengenalan perdana browser terbaru yang sedang dikembangkannya ke publik. Versi beta Internet Explorer 9 itu akan tersedia pada 15 September 2010.

"Anda dapat mengunduh kode beta IE9 pada 15 September," demikian pernyataan Microsoft, Kamis (12/8/2010), seperti dilansir situs The Register. Microsoft direncanakan memulai debut IE9 itu dalam sebuah gelaran akbar di San Francisco bertajuk "Beauty of the Web".

IE9 bakal menjadi browser pertama Microsoft yang paling mendukung standar mana pun. Browser ini sudah mendukung penuh standar HTML5, grafis 2D dengan elemen Canvas, serta font bawaan menggunakan Web Open Font Format (WOFF). Selain itu, IE9 juga bisa mengeksekusi standar video codec terbuka WebM dari Google serta standar video H.264 yang bersifat propietary.

Sebelumnya, IE9 diperkenalkan pertam kali dalam acara Mix pada Maret 2009 lalu. Microsoft mengklaim, sampai saat ini kode preview browser tersebut sudah diunduh 2,5 juta kali. Kehadiran IE9 merupakan upaya Microsoft kembali mendominasi pasar browser yang kini tersisa sekitar 60 persen.(theregister)
